Pyrus is a stunning boat. Yes, she floats, but she is more like a country cottage than a boat. She is a 62’ trad commissioned in 2009 and was, unsurprisingly, the Crick Boat Show Winner in 2008. The large front deck (5’4”) offers generous outside space and has both storage and the 675 litre stainless steel water tank underneath.
The step into the saloon is made of elm, and cleverly retracts under the front deck to maximise space. The saloon houses a large futon (co...

A bit on the history first;
The wrought iron hull was commissioned by the Oxford Canal Company as an open horse drawn ice-breaking boat. The frames were supplied by the Harts Hill Iron Co of Dudley and she was probably built in the 1850’s making her one of the oldest craft in the inland waterways.
As an ice boat she would have been based at either Banbury or Thrupp on the southern section of the canal.
She was laid up for sale at Braunston in 1961 and purchased for £100 by Alfr...
