Built by W.J. Yarwood and Sons of Northwich in 1936 as one of 8 pairs of "Middle Northwich Boats" for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company. In 1942 she, along with a few others, were selected by the Ministry of War (Transport) to be converted to Ice boats. Shortened to 40ft and having a 5ft Ice breaking ram and a number of other modification added she is able to break ice several inches thick. Tyrley was made in 2001 by Phil Jones from 10.6 steel. One of only a handful he built, she is an exacting replica of the 1935 Northwich Tug Sculptor. Measurements were taken from Lacerta and the accuracy extends below the waterline with a double curved swim, Tyrley can reverse beautifully.
