Footloose, a 35-foot narrowboat built in Cheshire in 2003, is an ideal pied dans l’eau in the heart of London. Located at Wenlock Basin, a secure and tranquil residential mooring on the Regent’s Canal just a few minutes’ walk from the Angel, Islington, Footloose has unobstructed views across and along the canal, making this one of the most attractive moorings in a sought-after location.
Entered from the bows (with two storage lockers), the boat has a sitting/dining area with log-burner and built-in sofa, a kitchen with fridge and four-ring gas hob and oven, a bathroom with basin, shower and cassette toilet, a double bedroom with masses of under-bed storage, and an extra lounging area above the engine. Footloose has a full safety certificate, valid to August 2021; its 1.5-litre BMC diesel engine was completely rebuilt by Calcutt Marine in late 2017, and its hull was professionally blacked in spring 2017.
Wenlock Basin is a private mooring for 18 boats (www.wenlockhouseboatco.com). Alongside a wooden jetty, the mooring is beautifully planted with shrubs and trees, and attracts a variety of birdlife – coots, swans, ducks, cormorants, herons, even a kingfisher – so no pets are allowed. Near Footloose is a large social area next to the canal, with a barbecue, tables and benches. Each mooring has a metered electrical connection, a water supply and landline connection to a provider of your choice. The mooring fee is currently £595 per month (including VAT) and the licence, included in the price, is fully transferrable, subject to suitable references.
