Papyrus is a charming reverse layout 40’ cruiser stern narrowboat built circa 1970. The paintwork is in reasonable condition, and was last blacked in 2021, along with a hull survey (available for viewing in the office).
The stern deck is well proportioned at 4’3’, the large sliding hatch gives plenty of room and is a good social space whilst cruising. The engine is a Volvo Penta MD2020 sitting under the deck boards in the aft cabin. This was last serviced in November 2025.
Either side of the steps leading down into the galley (5’9”) there are cupboards with one containing the electrics and the other being used as a hanging space. Utilities in the galley comprise of a stainless steel sink, a 240v Indesit fridge with ice box, and aHotpoint oven, grill and 4 burner hob. There is also plenty of storage.
The saloon (7’0”) follows. This is open plan and has a L-shaped sofa that converts to a spare double bed and an Arada Hamlet solid fuel stove.
Either side of a central corridor leading forward, you have a room containing the Thetford Porta Potti on the port side (with a side hatch), and on the starboard side sits the square shower tray with curtain across, and a ceramic wash basin. The doors to both side rooms open across the corridor to create an open bathroom (3’8”).
Then we head in to the forward cabin (5’8”) containing two bench seats that can be used as a dinette and also converts to a cross bed measuring 6’0” x 4’6”with steps leading out to the well deck.
The cratch covered well deck (4’3”) has two lockers either side holding the gas bottles with access to the storage under the forward deck (4’0”).
Hot water is heated by a Morco gas instant boiler.
12v domestic power is from a 280ah lithium battery, topped up by 420w solar power with a Victron MPPT solar charge controller, and 230v is from either the 3kw Renogy inverter / charger or landline hookup.
All the lighting is LED.
She is ready for immediate occupation and has been tried and tested as a liveaboard for a number of years.
