Cleeve Castle has been in our family for over 20 years and we are sad to see her go. She's been very well looked after and is full of traditional character.
I lived aboard this boat for 3 years at one time, navigating from Cambridge to Oxford to London during that time and loved it! Its absolutely perfect for one to live on, cosy in the winter, airy in the summer, ample space for guests to stay over too. Its a small boat so handles easily in the water and easy to manoeuvre in locks and tunnels and always easy to find a mooring spot!
There is a kitchen with counter surfaces, cupboards and oven/stove and living area with a stove, sofa and fold out bed at the front, a bathroom/shower room in the middle leading to a bedroom area at the back with queen sized bed and a small engine room at the stern with all of the boaty accessories that you need.
The perfect size for one to live on comfortably or to use as a holiday boat for a couple or friends.
There is a newly lined water tank right the front of the boat, with a new cratch covered area with a forward facing window and seating on either side before the front double doors lead inside to the kitchen. Inside there is a new Voyager 4500, 2 hob gas cooker, grill and oven, opposite there is a reconditioned Electrolux gas powered fridge (also electric) to keep all your food fresh with a tiled countertop above for your food preparation and storage cupboards for everything else.
Next to the stove is a newly reconditioned Paloma water heater that supplies hot water for the a stainless steel sink and draining board (and also for the shower), with plenty of additional storage space underneath for all your kitchen equipment. A newly painted Morso Aarrow wood burning stove placed in the centre of the boat supplies heat for the boat in the winter. This central living area can seat four for a meal with its long sofa and has done so many times, its a fantastic cosy space with four new sliding windows (all windows throughout replaced in 2016 with new backed curtains) for light and ventilation in the summer months. The sofa pulls out to twice its width to form a comfortable bed when needed for extra guests.
The main kitchen area has wooden laminate flooring with carpet throughout the rest of the boat.
The bathroom has an electric flushing cassette toilet, with a spare cassette. There is a shower and small sink. A new queen-size sprung mattress makes the bedroom extremely comfortable with a further 3 windows for light and ventilation. A chest of drawers and hanging space provides clothing storage and the bed is raised up by 2 foot to provide a huge amount of additional storage underneath (with plastic storage boxes). Its a lovely space and gets plenty of heat from the fire in the winter months.
In the back engine room, power comes from a classic traditional Lister SR2 engine that has a lovely sound that often gets noticed, reconditioned in 2012. There are 1 starter and 2 leisure batteries charged via an Advert alternator regulator battery management system (for rapid charging) for lights and a 600w inverter to supply internal power to several sockets throughout the boat. There is also a shore power connection and an array of 16amp cables for marina stays. There is an electric bilge pump and manual stern gland all within easy reach by the back double doors that open out onto the trad stern. The weed hatch has now been relocated outside onto the stern area and is easily accessible from the back deck for convenient propeller shaft cleaning (without having to enter the engine area under the floor). There is space for two gas bottles in a locker on the left of the back deck with a switch-over valve for convenience of changing source bottles (without having to physically unscrew the bottles)
The outside of the boat was fully repainted in 2016. There is a new survey and safety certificate from August 2019 and the bottom was blacked and back running strips replaced. All anodes were replaced in 2016. The hull is in an excellent condition as to be expected from a well made Hancock and Lane boat made with thicker steel and better welding than modern boats. The hull has never needed repeating apart from some small re-plating behind a running strip on the right side stern completed in August 2019.
An axe for firewood, hose for water, mooring pins and hooks and a mallet will all be included in the sale.
Cleeve has been well looked after and is in a fantastic overall condition, I'm sorry to see her go and will miss her. She has been cleared out ready for sale and is need of a bit of TLC make her a home again.
