Firbob is a lovely 36ft Traditional Narrowboat built in 1991 and has been my home for the last 2 years. The majority of my time has been on the waterways around London as that is where my office has been. But this year I have also gone on a lovely 400 mile cruise up the Grand Union, Oxford Canal and along the Thames whilst working from home in between lockdowns. I had proposed to stay on the boat for much longer but an opportunity has come up for me on the West Coast of Scotland and I can’t cruise Firbob up there so I am selling the boat on for someone else to enjoy. Firbob is the perfect continuous cruiser boat for a single person, and is currently moored in Paddington.
Layout: Stern>bedroom>bathroom>galley,>saloon>doors to foredeck.
Bedroom: 2 single beds each side of the corridor, I have set up one of the single beds as a storage and hanging area providing a lot of storage. It would be possible to fit a double bed here without too much altering. Circular porthole provides good lighting.
Bathroom: The bathroom is a walk through type, and with both doors shut provides a spacious bathroom for a boat of this size. Thetford cassette toilet, wash basin, shower, cupboard, mirror. Two frosted portholes keep the room bright yet private.
Galley: Vanette Oven & Grill (gas), Thetford 4 hob stove (gas) , Batts Marine 12V Fridge/Freezer, Sink/Drainer, cupboards, shelves, work surface. Very generous size kitchen for a sub 40ft boat, that has everything you could need.
Saloon: In built large 2m long sofa with storage underneath, this can also be pulled out to make a full size double bed. In built corner seat with storage underneath. Multi fuel stove centrally located in boat creating better heat distribution. 19th century mahogany Sutherland table, as it is perfect size for the boat will leave this for the next owners if they want. Large windows with newly fitted blinds creates an airy space.
Foredeck: With the new cratch added in 2020, this space is now fully useable in all weathers, and essentially adds a whole new room to the boat. Two benches, one is open underneath and one is a trunk style, the trunk style one can store 3x25kg bags of coal, and a fold down table. The gas locker can take 3 full size bottles.
Electrics: 200w solar, Victron MPPT 75/15, for efficiency I run everything of 12V (I have converted all my chargers to 12V) but there is a 600W unboxed inverter if you need it.
Heating: Multifuel stove, Calorifier for hot water.
Hull: Blacked April 2019, 6 new anodes April 2019
Engine: Beta Marine 2 Cylinder (this engine has been faultless, started first time every time even in freezing conditions and has been looked after and serviced well), Hurth gearbox, last engine service July 2020 (Keith Duffy).
Recent Work Done:
Bespoke Hardwood Cratch Frame and Cover fitted February 2020
Roof Repainted, all 5 Ventilite roof vents replaced and roof decking added May 2020 .
Solar Panels fitted June 2020.
New Jabsco water pumps and multifuel stove fitted around 2017 (before I owned boat so can’t give exact date)
New carpet fitted 2020.
Survey carried out in April 2019, and available upon request after viewing. The survey stated Firbob “was considered to be in good structural and mechanical condition” and “none of the RECOMMENDATIONS were serious and none will need attention at this time”. Recommendations have been acted upon since the survey. Boat Safety Certificate valid until April 2022.
